Inspired by Sin, the pre-Islamic South Arabian moon god, this ring traces an ancient connection between the moon, the mountains, and protection.
The crescent and full moon appear throughout the archaeological landscape of Dhofar, from the temples of Samahram to the entrances of homes in Mirbat. The Nubian ibex, still found among the mountain peaks, was associated with Sin; its powerful, crescent-shaped horns became a living symbol of the moon god on earth.
The words Ya Sin were also inscribed on ancient pottery, believed to invoke protection and good fortune during its journey. The phrase continues to be used by Dhofaris today as a form of protection, carrying an ancient invocation into the present.
